This week, listen to a playlist of the three winning tracks by Jim M, Lookbook & Military Special
This week listen to a playlist of three winning tracks by Jim M, chosen by Melisa Rivière, Lookbook, chosen by Dana Raidt, and Military Special chosen by Andrea Myers.
I'm a musican-songwriter living in the greater Twin Cities area (or
"Kimballapolis"). I've been drawn to music since I can remember. When offered a violin at age 6, I didn't turn it down....
Later - in college - I picked up the guitar, and have since been in bands such as the Surahoolies and Stearns County Pachanga Society. All the while, I've been writing and experimenting with music & lyrics on my own.
Six years later, I channeled my favorites into an album - aptly named "after the fact". These 'song collages' mix indie rock and world music to paint an impressionistic picture of a life outside the mainstream. Taken altogether, a story is told - without giving too much away.
Lookbook | OH I FEAR YOU ( MY DARKNESS )
Lookbook performs in Minneapolis, upcoming shows will be at the Whole at the University of Minnesota:Twin Cities and at the Turf Club.
Military Special was forged in the fires of the Summer of 2007. They played their first show at a keg party in a Minneapolis basement shortly thereafter.
Founding members Peter Blomgren, Joe Schweigert, and Jake Hartnett—of Afternoon Records alums Look Down—hooked up with James Shaff (of Viceburgh), and Jake’s brother Joe Hartnett to form the original lineup of Military Special. Those five recorded a quick demo before the departure of the Hartnett Brothers in September of 2007. Enter Geoff Freeman, also of Viceburgh, and newcomer Charlie Smith.
Jake Hartnett & Danell Norby have since rejoined Military Special for live shows.
