Military Special was forged in the fires of the Summer of 2007. They played their first show at a keg party in a Minneapolis basement shortly thereafter.
Founding members Peter Blomgren, Joe Schweigert, and Jake Hartnett—of Afternoon Records alums Look Down—hooked up with James Shaff (of Viceburgh), and Jake’s brother Joe Hartnett to form the original lineup of Military Special. Those five recorded a quick demo before the departure of the Hartnett Brothers in September of 2007.
This unconventional crew mixes genres such as blues, rock, jazz, and reggae into a copious amount of sounds. The Minneapolis based group is differentiated by its use of nontraditional instrumentation (mandolin, violin) within the rock/blues genre.
Chicane Theory creates lasting melodies using sonic fabric stretched across a broad spectrum of sound ranging from hauntingly clean guitar and heartfelt vocals, to edgy guitars, driving bass, and aggressive drumming.
Chicane Theory's debut EP "Lose Track of Time" is available on CD and MP3, online retailers (including iTunes), and several brick and mortar retailers in MN and WI.
Winning tracks from each contest are selected by panelists from within the music industry. Quarterly listening parties at area venues will take place and a compilation CD of music from the yearlong contest will be produced.
Submission Specifications and Entry Process Any and all types of music accepted; only three tracks per musician will be reviewed for possible inclusion on the CD.
