This exhibition explores the concept of place through the photographic interpretation of three local photographers.  Each artist's approach addresses this idea in a conceptual, narrative, or responsive manner.

Brian Lesteberg's large-scale color photographs from his series "Raised to Hunt," are a visual exploration of his experience being raised in a family of hunters. Celeste Nelms' exquisite gelatin-silver prints have a narrative way of connecting nature and the human experience. Brett Kallusky's color photographs are often responsive in their poetic depiction of the Italian landscape that is so deeply connected to its historically rich past.

Brett Kallusky has shown work locally, nationally, and internationally. He received his M.F.A. in photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art (2005) and is a recipient of the Miguel Vinciguerra Fulbright Fellowship to work on a photographic project entitled Viaggio (Le Viste) in Italy (2005-2006). He currently lives and works in his studio in Saint Paul, MN.

Celeste Nelms has been making photographs for 30 years and has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. She has received grants from the McKnight Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the Jerome Foundation. She has been an artist-in-residence at the New York Mills Cultural Center, the Blacklock Nature Center, the Anderson Center, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. Her work is included in the collections of The Minnesota Historical Society, University of Minnesota, and The Family Housing Fund.

Brian Lesteberg is a recipient of the Jerome Emerging Artist Fellowship, 2007, and Minnesota State Arts Board/National Endowment for the Arts Grant, 2006. His photographs are in the collections of the Minnesota Museum of American Art, St. Paul, Minn.; the Milwaukee Art Museum; and the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College, Chicago, Ill. In 2008, selections from his series "Raised to Hunt" were published in 25 Under 25: Up and Coming American Photographers. Lesteberg has photographed for The New York Times Magazine, Fortune, and Time. Lesteberg attended the Minneapolis College of Art in Design, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Photography in 2004. He currently resides in Minneapolis.
