Experience
Growing up in Minneapolis in the 1940s and 50s made me keenly aware of nature. Minnesota is a place of diverse topography - rural fields of corn and wheat, heavily forested terrain to the north - with countless rivers & lakes spread across the region. These indelible images have become the basis for much of my art. Though born with creative instincts, little encouragement to study the arts came during this age of “Sputnik.” After obtaining an MBA, I struck out independently to study the works of the Masters in books as well as in the museums of the U.S. & Europe. As an adult learner, I took some coursework in fine arts at the U of M in the 1990s. For several years I displayed my work at the corporate office of Andersen Corporation. Since 1993, I’ve exhibited and sold my art in galleries in both Minneapolis & southern California. I have consistently received favorable feedback from persons trained in the marketing and display of art. Since returning 4 years ago from government work in California, I have taken this time to become technically stronger by “challenging and stretching myself.” Broadening my subject matter & styles, using new materials and painting larger canvases has been achieved. This sabbatical has truly catapulted me into the essence of my creativity. Confidence & competence as an Artist have grown as has my body of work. Since 2004, I have painted nearly 300 significant pieces.
Far more than an avocation, Art has made me feel alive & engaged - and has become the driving passion of my life.
