Dan Thomas was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up loving music, painting and film, and knew at a very early age that he wanted to be an artist. As an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota, he studied music, English literature and German literature, graduating with degrees in both English and German. He then went on to study film history, theory and criticism at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and graduated with an MA.
After film school, he began a career in television, working as a video editor at
post-production facilities and then as a manager at Twin Cities Public Television for twenty years. He wrote poetry throughout his television career and recently completed an MFA at Seattle Pacific University. He has had poems published in Southern Poetry Review, Poetry Ireland Review, Nimrod International Journal, The Bitter Oleander, and other journals. He is currently seeking to publish his poetry manuscript "The Long Melody."
