Ms. Berlovitz designed costumes for Theatre de la Jeune Lune
between 1980-2008. She designed over 50 of their productions including Don
Juan Giovanni, Figaro, The Miser, Carmen,
Hamlet, Cosi Fan Tutti, The Magic Flute, Tartuffe, Medea, Circus of Tales and The Three Musketeers. She has also designed several productions at
Berkeley Repertory Theatre (Haroun and the Sea of Stories, The Green Bird), Childrens Theatre Company (The Snow Queen, Alice in Wonderland, Mississippi Panorama,
Grimms Tales), The Guthrie Theatre (Triumph
of Love), American Repertory Theatre (Amerika,
The Miser), La Jolla Playhouse (The
Deception) and Actors Theatre of Louisville (Shipwrecked, Fissures, Sirens). Other design credits include Stuart
Pimsler Dance Theater, The Jungle Theater, Ten Thousand Things Theatre Company
and Minnesota Dance Theater. She
is a graduate of both La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and The
School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She worked as a textile designer for
Yohji Yamamoto in Tokyo, Japan and also has been the recipient of many grants
and awards including The Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Best Costume Design
award (The Green Bird), McKnight
Theatre Artists Fellowship and participation in the juried exhibition World
Stage Design in Toronto in 2005. In 2007 her designs for The Miser were
selected for exhibition at the Prague Quadrennial. Teaching credits and speaking engagements include The University of Minnesota, Fairfield University, CT,
Minneapolis Community and Technical College, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Minneapolis
College of Art and Design, Sabes Jewish Community Center, and BIMA (Brandeis
University).
