Ongoing Opportunities

More than just a timely notice of artist calls, I envision this to be a place to post on-going career opportunities that may be just a bit off the beaten path. Or maybe just whatever works.

I'll start things off with what I think is a great one...

Have you ever seen the TV show on the Discovery channel called Monster Garage? They take a car and modify the hell out of it, turning into some other functional machine. Jesse James, the motorcycle builder, is the hard-working, no-nonsense host. Anyway, they're always looking for new people to be on the show. There is an application form right on their website: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/monstergarage/monstergarage.html or you can send in a video tape. If you're a gearhead/sculptor, this may be just the thing for you.

Good luck.

Sam

Pittsburgh, PA. The Mattress Factory is an alternative museum that commissions, presents, and collects site-specific installations in an environment whose resources are totally dedicated to that process. Each installation is conceived for and executed in the space in which it is seen by the public. Residencies range from one week to two months. The artists determine the specific length of time, and the schedule is designed to provide maximum on-site staff support for each artist. The deadline for submission is ongoing. For more information, contact the Mattress Factory, 500 Sampsonian Way, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Tel. 412/231-3169. Fax 412/322-2231. E-mail info@mattress.org. Web site: www.mattress.org.

I like that one too, Ray. The Badlands are one of my favorite places.

Here's another something that has some potential. If you've ever seen HGTV (Home and Garden TV) they have a pretty decent show called Modern Masters where they profile the work of an artist/artisan. After some questions, I was able to find out how to submit your information to be considered for the show. Go to this link: http://resourcedirectory.hgtv.com and enter your info into the database. Who knows, they may profile your work as part of a different show's design as well. We're talking great advertising here. You never know until you try.
