I'm going to sound like a jerk for saying this, but I guess I never realized how much great local art there was until I started logging in to this site everyday. You cats are something special.

That's all. Back to your Thursday.

Hey Jill,

This is a great topic. Let's post URLs to work we've seen on the site and like. Say something about it if you are so moved.

I love old photographs. My imagination runs wild knowing those people have lived most or all of their lives and I am getting just a glimpse.

Have you seen Lisa O'Hanlon's handwoven glass with pearl necklace? It's exquisite. http://mnartists.org/work.do?rid=17087

Editing to say
http://mnartists.org/work.do?rid=17087 yes, with a 7 at the end that oddly doesn't show. herm.

Hey Jill,

I think you dropped a number on the URL. Is it http://mnartists.org/work.do?rid=17086 or http://mnartists.org/work.do?rid=17087? All of them are beautiful.

I think Gregory's work is an experience, I have seen it in person, and watched him develop over a number of years. If anyone gets the chance to check him out in person, its worth a peek...

Gabriel - I agree! I've seen his stuff up in my neighborhood (ran across it again tonight, in fact - he has new work up at Espresso Royale right now) and I LOVE IT. I've been meaning to tell the guy (for like, 3 years)how much his stuff rules.

I really dig some of his older stuff - more realistic figural work in space - that really hit me. Are you listening Greg? You rule! Can I buy you some coffee next time you're at ERC downtown? I would love to talk to you about your work!

I just got lost for a little while here: http://mnartists.org/work.do?rid=18514 in Outrage's gallery. That's a pleasant feeling -- to have the online experience that you do at a real art exhibit; where you've lost time and are just journeying around absorbed in the art...

Yes, Outrage's gallery is pretty immersive.

The Search Engine Curator: My my new, fun, treasure-hunt type way of exploring mnartists.org.

I was using the search engine to look people up on mnartist.org, and I noticed that even if there is no match, the seach engine still displays a ton of results.

While the programming logic of these results is not clear to me (but since I assume there is an organizing principle to the results shown), these words act as a theme, offering a new context to the works and to my search.

Here are some of my searches. Feel free to join in and post your results.

complicit: 339 results
beatific: 343 results
myopic: 39 results
sybaritic: 29 results
family: 551 results
rejection: 1,800 results
immolate: 57 results
black: 1,912 results
sickness: 249 results
amnesia: 293 results
mary: 1,997 results

Type in enough words and you begin to form a strange statistical picture of mnartists.org.

(And hey - no fair playing psychologist with my word associations, here! )

On another note, I am really enjoying Jennifer Davis' work:

http://www.mnartists.org/work.do?rid=6707 the 7 at the end doesn't show unless you type stuff after it. That's puzzling.

Hee hee! I love your searchy game, L!
