Know anything about Arts Quarter Housing on 26th and Nicollette?

Hi All,

My husband and I, both landscape architects, would like to relocate from NYC, NY to Minneapolis next year. Someone told us to look at the new Arts Quarter Loft Development going up on 26th and Nicollette. We have not been in the Mpls. area in 5 years.

Can anyone tell us anything about that area these days? What are rental prices in that area for a 2 bedroom?

Does anyone know anything about that particular development???

Thanks so much for any help with this.

Ground has not yet been broken on this project--old structures have been torn down, however. I suggest you contact ARTSPACE in Minneapolis.

Christine;
Got a call from you about a week ago, I think. The 42nd Street Lofts are NEW CONSTRUCTION built for a live/work environment. They have approximately 1500 finished square feet of floor space, but are very volumic and open with a 28 foot ceiling over the work space, and tons of windows, as well as a full view glass garage door in the studio. There are only 15 units in the all brick complex, and the first phase is closing on a completion date for move-in on about end of Oct. Groundbreaking was Dec 31, 2003.. We had a very wet spring, so there were some delays in early spring construction. The sales trailer which is on site, is open most weekends, from 1-3 - There still is a unit available in Phase I. They are 3 stories, set up like a brownstone - one short block to the light rail - Hiawatha ( 55) and 42nd Street South. Stop By or give us a call will you ?

Oops - forgot to mention that phase II of these artists lofts at 42nd street have a start date of end of November and will be ready for move in by, I am just guessing, but probably April 2005.

There was a funded Arts Center Housing on 2nd, and it is sold out, some were low income, north of the art institute by 4 blocks. I believe that the ones on 26th and Nicollet will be like the "other mixed-use" buildings with retail on the main floor and 9 ft ceilings / condo's up.

Hi,
My hsband and I live a few minutes from there and we think its a great neighborhood. Its got lots of good ethnic restaurants and cafes, a nice mix of artists, immigrants and career types, the MIA and several theaters close by, and its centrally located between downtown and uptown. We've spent some time in New York and we've always thought that Whittier is about as close to a New York feel as one can get in Mpls. And last but not least, let me mention that this posting is not a completely selfless effort to help out-of-towners relocate to the Twin Cities... I just posted a listing for the 2 bedroom unit we have available in our nearby duplex. Please check it out--its a wonderful space.

Here is my usefull little tip for the NewYork insurgence to that area. Go to Acadia Cafe on the corner at Nicolette for experimental music evenings and forget the "NY feel". You're in Minneapolis now baby.

Hey Christine -- I don't know if you're still checking this board, but I'm a MN actor/writer dying to relocate to NYC -- stymied in this effort by being totally broke and unable to afford typical NYC rents. If you know of ANY opportunities for housing in NYC -- have friends looking to rent out a room, want to retain your apartment there but sublet it...anything at all -- let me know. I'd be so grateful. Thanks very much! Hope you're having luck planning your Minneapolis move.
