Sam- What's the expression? "No philosopher is respected within 50 miles of his hometown." Something like that.

That external validation IS important, and seems to make a lot of art marketing happen.

Sam - I think this happens everywhere. Just like funders don't want to be the first one to fund an organization or an artist, audiences everywhere want to have their interest validated.

I think that was a Jesus quote Chris.
"A prophet is not without honor except in his home town"

The next part of course was "....If someone refuses you lodging or a town rejects your message, leave. As you go stamp your feet to shake off the dust of the place and to let the people know how you were treated...."

It looks like 8:30 has arrived.

Thanks to everyone for coming to the forums, posting questions and having a great conversation. And a big thanks to Chris for taking the time to answer them!

Thanks Valerie and everyone!

It is Springboard's job to help you become successful and self-sufficient. It is our goal that anybody that has the desire (and of course the talent) can make a living doing the creative thing they love to do.

Check out our website for jobs, downloadable contracts and releases for artists, low-interest business loans, health insurance info, an online searchable database of local and national resources for artists, etc. etc. etc.

Look at our workshop schedule to see if there something you need- the workshops next week at The Phipps Center in Hudson, Wisconsin will be useful, cool and fun and they are not too far away.
