I love it. Love it or hate it - post it here. BTW - where is Gabriel?

BTW - here's a REALLY great link to artists who do graffiti art in a non-traditional way.

(thanks to Helena Keeffe)

Wondering about Gabe myself..
That hector contraption is pretty neat. I like how they designed their own circuit bords. But I couldn't understand the conversation during the performance.

Here my blues clues contribution on the topic of Graffiti Art

A tour of west St.Paul murals and public art. Very relevant. Very Cool!

there is a tree across the street from my house and it says "die" in spray paint. i've seen this tag in other parts of town. i HATE it. however, there is a row of stencil/ spray painted wind-up cops with billy clubs on the bridge on my way to work and i LOVE them. This sort of street art has had a tremendous influence on my own art in fact. see www.stencilarchive.org

Welcome back, Gabriel! Some of the train graffiti up there is great. Esp. when the train folks hide out in the grain elevators - absolutely beautiful stuff in there - I've been documenting it with photographs for several years now.

Thanks for the great link! I've been noticing a bunch of stencils on the sidewalk downtown that are pretty cool.

I'm outtie - gotta keep studyin'!

I moved this over from another location cuz Mural art would be relavent to this topic.

OOOoo I found it! (still momentarily distracting the MM meeting)
The culture rape proposed in west Saint Paul.
Jaime, Remember when you showed me your photoshop work and you were looking to learn how to do transparent overlays? Well, I found someone who knows how to do that very well has been working for REDA (Riverview Economic Development Association).
Click http://www.districtdelsol.com/improvements.html and look at the before and after plan for West Side Hair Care on Robert Street. That building has this mural ( http://www.stpaulcommons.org/mural/inmemory.htm ) on the side. By the looks of their "after" vision, they don't plan on it being there. ... .. ..
Upon closer inspection, It's already gone! Along with 3 other works by Carlos Menchaca! The only one that remains is his "Aztec City" http://www.stpaulcommons.org/mural/azteccity.htm
I think he is not present to protest the erasure of his cultural legacy in West St. Paul.
It pisses me off. Not as much as when Minneapolis destroyed "The Celebration of Life" mural on the Northside, but it's the same idea. Grrrrrrrr.

I love it when it's really really well done. Most of it passes me by - I often like the idea better than the outcome.

I found an old city pages artical from 99 with a few pictures of Gold Medal art work in it. The Gold Medal Museum, hows that sound to you? http://www.citypages.com/databank/20/988/article8190.asp

Ray, what do you think about a third generation artwork for the MM logo? That is, someone paints, fabricates or otherwise creates the piece with an idea to photograph it. Then it gets turned into a silk-screen for our purposes.

Wrong thread, I know, but something graffiti-like, or manufactured could become a cross-cultural link within the design. Get my meaning?

Just got off on a tangent.

Ahhh are you a Bob Davis listener too Lauren?

Dale, yeah your idea sounds cool. Ideas I was having towards a logo were adbusters style philosophically. Altering the familiar "M"s already in our pop culture for a meaningful effect.
One would be to flip the W in the Waste Management logo you see on dumpsters (!).
Another is the university of Minnesotas "M" font.. just double it. Many other possibilities along this same logic. I'll throw a few together mostly just for cheap entertainment. I'd like to hear more of your ideas.
But back to the topic! Graf art.
SC23 = ...hmmm I dun know... But I know it stands for Solar Cycle 23.
