I'd love to stay on this forum, but I did tell people that I would meet them at the IBA gathering (eveyone's welcome).
I guess I can only finalize my ranting with the statemen:
I don't know what the solution is for bringing the developing artists and the independent businesses back into some sort of health. I do know that there needs to be some impetus to re-vitalize both true ORIGNIAL development in the arts and the small businesses and non-profits that allow them the incubation to succeed OR fail.
I do know that conservative old systems that resist change, must change for the good of all. I also know that the more one steps on the minority, the more society creates criminals. I mean this in an organizational sense. How many small businesses will NOT join an organization like IBA because they are surviving by NOT following the rules? Do all new buseinsses call in the inspectors when the modify their plants or retail location? How many small businesses accurately report all their revenue? I do know that as survival gets tougher and tougher for the small independent, the system will create more business violating code or tax law or other burdens that are causing bankruptcy and closings.
Well, I'm still looking for both the questions and answers I guess.
Thanks Colin, Chris, JP, and all the other behind scenes staffers at mnartists.org who allowed me the opportunity to rant opinions on the panel.
