Fair Story Day Twelve

Kevin had ridden on the Human Slingshot before, and now as he and Melissa approached the head of the line, he felt faintly queasy. He was afraid he would make a complete fool of himself— perhaps even throw up. He so wanted to impress Melissa, who had consented to going to the State Fair on this, there first date. Her insistence on riding the Human Slingshot so early in the day had him worried about how the date would turn out.

As he stood in line, he bagan to vaguely remember all the various foods on a stick that he had eaten on his way to this impending torture. Visions of corn dogs and deep fried candy bars, pickles, and corn, and, of course, deep fried alligator, flashed before his eyes. It was either power through the ride, or social suicide.

As he wandered down the fairblacktop, he suddenly smelled something. The smell he used to know from his childhood visiting his grandparents church basement at holiday time. "No, it can't be true!" he said. They now have lutfisk on a stick. "Ya, you betcha!"

Juanio from san antonio smiled as he plucked the gluey mess of fish from the plastic bucket and rolled across it the handful of flour and "taco" seasoning. He jabbed the thing with the fake chop stix made in Ohio and stacked it with the other lutfish on stix. Fourteen hours of this. Fourteen hours of standing in the drone of the crowd with only an occasional piss break. But it was worth it to watch the jueros line up for thier cultural food and pay the exorbitant price. It was worth it. Next week it would all be over and he could sit back and watch foot on TV and tell Minnesotan jokes.
He laughed and the girl at counter turned and said, "WWWhat??"
