Chicano Performance Artist Jimmy R. Longoria in the role of Coyote 256 creates an art movement for the purpose of promoting the recognition of Minnesota focused art.

The first tenet of this movement is that the art be produced solely to satisfy the esthetic interests of the Artist whose sole intention is to make Art for consumption in Minnesota.

The second tenet is that the Artist reflect the values and culture unique to the State as whole with subcategories of significant cultural development outside the disciplines of Artistic production.

The third tenet is that a Minnesota Artist makes art that is sensible: that it is intended to by possessed by real people. The work must exhibit a characteristic of honest and sincere communication between the artist and the Patron

The fourth tenet is that the Art be clear and honest with the viewer and not insult the intelligence of the community at large with "gimmicky" ideas and concepts.

Hi fellas,

I like how these tenets are developing. Have you gotten much response from people outside the small group. I am curious. So far they feel like they are clearly carrying the intentions of the MM project.

I am preparing to locate a "sales" venue, maybe "yard" sale location for the launch of the actual art work. It is turning out to be more challenging than I thought: I cranked out fifty paintings for my Chicano show and thought i would have at least half that I could cull out as just MMAM work; but the committee I assembled to make the cut wouldn't chose. So back to the "drawing" board to establish a "criteria" for what is MMAM work.

I love the idea of Minnesota Mediocre selling work at a yard sale or garage sale. The venue for presenting work so often is neglected in the thought process. I also like the idea of hooking into existing potlucks and selling work there. As a preacher's kid I am imaging you showing work at a bunch of church potlucks. Bring 10-15 pieces to a potluck and have 30-100 people look them over. Having food at the event makes sense to me considering your sensibilities about community.

How about adding performance to the art?

Have you noticed that the "general" fear over funding shortages in support of the arts is spreading? MMAM is a "practical" device to address the diminished funding for "art sales" venues. We need to find a way for "exhibitions" to be funded out of thier own efforts. This would release money for the schools.

I just finished a letter to my State Legislator encouraging him to advocate the "redirection" of arts monies toward the "schools" short falls in Art activities; you see in Hopkins Schools, which prided itself for it's "Performing Arts" the district has announced a major defunding of the activities that set the district apart from other schools statewide! Because foundations have steadfastly made it clear that they would not pick up the "governmental" shortages the school arts programs must compete for desperately few " State" dollars. I find myself, ( as a parent) advocating against "myself"( as an Artist) in favor of the "future" generations of young artists yet to be!

I am motivated by more than just a "cool" idea.

What's up with MMAM these days? Jaime, did you get any response to the letter?
