Sorry to miss you Ray, but I'll be getting back to work tomorrow myself. My proposal was the 27th reviewed this morning and 4+ hours watching was enough for me. Very educational though and only a handful or so spectators on hand. If anyone's at all interested in the process, I highly recommend going.

It was a bit frustrating for me to watch though. My proposal ended up making it through to the next round but there was confusion over whether I was a student or not. I list the college I attended but not a degree (I didn't get one). Perhaps I need to start including the dates I attended again. Are there not enough college drop-out artists anymore? I was glad when one of the panelists stated simply "this is not the work of a student" but I didn't feel the confusion was dissipated. Most of the national shows I've been in do not allow students to enter so I assumed it would be obvious. You know what happens when you assume... Just venting a bit.

I made it over to the MIA as well. They keep moving things around. Why can't they just leave the George Rickey sculpture on display?! But check out the new acquisitions gallery for a sculpture in volcanic rock of the Hindu god Ganesh. Very beautifully done head. And there is a Greek torso of a satyr that is simply amazing in the permanent collection.

Wow, sounds super educational.

Side note; Does anyone know how I can get ahold of the Pixies? They have reformed their band and they're in town for the start of a tour... I would like to invite them to Hot House @ The Soap.
Maybe they would like to see A Whisper in the Noise? If any you City Pages people can get ahold of them and let em know where they wanna be Saturday night, I would do a flip.

Quick, whats the number for Mellisa Meerez? Valerie Valentine? Holly Day? Anna Pratt?
If the Pixies show up, we'll let them play a song on Whispers equipment.

Bob and Erik: not to mention doing eight hours of work per day and see how the credit for your creativity and accomplishment go to your supervisor, management, or even the CEO, but not to you. LOL

Doh! Thanks Gabe. And I've even been trying to make a concerted effort to not miss things on the front page. I blame this new laptop. It won't let me set the screen resolution any smaller than 1024 x 768 so text is even smaller than usual.

Is that your work space? Let some light in there so we can see exactly what's going on. Looks good though, lots of activity. The 2D and 3D world are quite different.

Went down and checked out the Soap Factory's season opener. Of course, I got to see Ray Rolfe's work. Awsome time, great music, saw a lot of people.

I was going to go to a party, but decided to stay home and make rice. whoa, exciting... I was surprised how many art scene people were at the soap, a lot of artists that I recognized, like Scott Seekins, critics like Glenn Gordan (haha who called me a "word-monger" for the forums here, what ever that means, seemed like a decent guy tho) and Ann Klefstad, I admire both of these people's work, and gallery owners, like Frank Stone, and Nick from the Rogue Buddha (the only gallery I have lost money at *snif*). It was kind of a mini Weisman art party. I think thats what this city needs once a month or so, a real big art party...

Holy balls, it's even Spring-like up here in the boonies. I swear I've lost 10 pounds of Winter weight just from the change in seasons. After-bar party last night led to a 3.5 mile walk home at 5 in the morning. Drinking and driving are dumb and walking over a mile on trails in the woods in the wee hours is really refreshing. Sure, some portions of the trek could have been considered trespassing but walking along the highway with a sway can be hazardous to your permanent record and any landowners could see I was harmless.

yeah! Those 5 am walks are great. I've done that a few times this year.

Man! The opening was an amazing success. I was goof'n in the photo Gabe took. I had to throw my fake N.E gangsta sign.
But yes, last night made all the effort worth while. I'm so happy everyone made it. Just overflowing with thanks.
There was such a great turn out of people I respect. And everyone had strongly positive feedback. Other gallery owners, writers, artists.. I was in a thrilling whirlwind just recognizing everyone. It'll make for a great next episode of SFG4.
We had some pleasant suprizes. At the last minute, Chris Pennington (of gallery fame) hooked us up a photo booth! It was delivered an hour before doors opened. Oh, such a blast. We have a space for people to post their pictures and it's a riot. Very funny faces everyone.

I'm impressed with the strength of the art work. There is some really good stuff to see. Colon Pipe Krew and A Whisper in the Noise sounded great! It was just an overwhelmingly good show. If any of my Soap homies read this, you people are the greatest. THANK YOU ALL for doing your thing and making this experience so good. I can't wait to see any reviews that might come out.

We'll figure out the closing night entertainment and do it again in 2 weeks.
