Of course it is a trade off between quality and small file size. So the key is balancing the two. Photoshop allows you to get a live preview of how the jpg compression will affect the image.

One thing I try to stress to my beginning students is to think of the image size in terms of the number of pixels heigh by the number of pixels wide. This is different than the way most people think of resolution. Most people refer to the resolution or dpi of an image. but because we are looking at web images on a computer monitor it is more important to know the pixel height and pixel width.

Most monitors can only display 1024 x 768 pixels so anything bigger than that will extend beyond the edge of the screen. Actually 800 x 600 pixels is plenty big for a large detail image on the web because you need room for menus and buttons at the top of the screen.

Hi All:
My name is Susan McArdle and I am an infrequent visitor/contributor to the site. However, this year one of my main goals is to get my watercolors on some marketable pieces. Namely, postcards for openings, and some special cards and perhaps some giclees as well as using this site more - Maybe even a simple Web site. I have a digital camera, but my giclee tech went to New York with his big Epson, and my computer is not a Mac- just an Dos System with Adobe on it. Does anyone have any ideas ? Is there a good class to take somewhere that gets to the nuts and bolts ? MCAD, my old alma mater, a hundred years ago, may just have a class to take me there, but I thought someone could just comment about all of this ( and even that) and their own personal & exceptional experiences. Just got back from Italy and have a numerous works I would like to get in some variations of presentable form.
Chaio! Chaio!

Suzi,
You may want to check out the classes at the Science Museum of Minnesota. They have a huge selection of classes and seminars at two locations.
go to http://www.comped.smm.org to find more information.
Good luck,
Kathleen

I wish to open this topic to discussions of more advanced technology coming on-line today.

There was interest in creative use of data bases. I'm looking at advanced content creation thru data paging.

I'm learning Blender 3d, VTP, Design Workshop, and others. and would like to see some input from students and artists working in 3d animation or currently using tools like 3DS MAX, MAYA, ect.

For instance, today I heard of a UoM professor using the UnrealTournament game engine to teach particle physics.

Has anyone here used any Architectural rendering software?

like Teoman, this post is late as well. right now im using photoshop CS to create my art, and most of it is digital. i do use the occasional free stock photos, and i am self taught. what i was wondering is are there any kind of digital art classes in the metro area that focus mainly on photoshop with some use of illustrator?

I thinK all is self taught... no instructors can understand yr language of expression to accomplish the new freedom mind.

So do you guys know about pPointCloud video pixel tracking >> to 3d plain orientation >> to polygon reconstruction + photomap >> so as you can, just hit record and process the "AUTOCAD" into game engine formats??

I'm looking for seeemlessss integration with G(oogle)E(arth) formats.

Fly thru the window to interior format.

That is what i'm reserching... that is what is HUGE ART FORM.

~NOW

Don't worry about old language, they will never catch up....
