What are the most salient issues that women in film are addressing? What are the issues of "our time", as women film/video makers?

i'm wondering if there are particular themes that women film makers are addressing. in my work, i am exploring a voice that is both introspective and socially outward-looking. really trying to show how personally we live the politics of the culture.

are there related themes that you see out there in the films/videos of women? or does even trying to name these themes limit us? i know that we are a widely diverse group, but what are the visible concerns that we are looking at?

As the co-producer/Writer of the Wayward Girls documentary project, I am writing on behalf of myself and my business partner, Mickie Turk (Co-producer/Director.)

What we found is a huge need for timely, socially relevant films about and for young women at-risk for a variety of social issues, particularly homelessness/runaways, teen prostitution, underlying issues causing female delinquency and crime, and needs/issues of women who are being released from the correctional systems, back to a society whose political bureaucracy that has set them up to fail, long before they get out. Young people in particular need films that they see as relevant to themselves, their age group, and the particular problems they face in 2004 that are unique to this millennium.

My guess is that women tend to make films about subjects they care about--not what makes a lot of money--I began making films because I wanted to tell stories about my homeland from a female perspective.
