The Hopkins Center for the Arts has invited some of the Twin Cities’ most-read arts writers to select work for an upcoming “Critics’ Show.” No longer allowed to sit back and judge, well known taste-makers from Secrets of the City (The Rake), mnartists.org, access+ENGAGE, and Vita.mn were forced to think about what they would hang on the walls. The tables, for once, are about to turn.

The rules were simple: each of the four critics was to choose one or two artists that he or she was particularly fond of, and each artist had to be an emerging Minnesota talent with relatively little exposure in the local scene. The result is a potpourri of brand new work—and four very distinct notions of “taste.”

And—in a nod to the blustery nature of arts writing—each critic will have five minutes to defend his or her choices during a brief panel discussion at the opening reception.
