Explore the various design elements used in Navajo rugs by weaving a
small wool sampler. Students will learn how to warp their looms in
class on the first day. We will then focus on learning the different
techniques used in Navajo rugs, including raised outline. The instructor
will prepare the warp and twining cords in advance, so there will be
more time to weave. Students will be expected to weave outside of the
scheduled class time. The looms are portable and may be taken home in
the evenings to weave. Given the unique methods used in warping the
loom, there may not be enough time in class to finish the
sampler. Students may purchase the dowels used in the weaving or the
loom at the end of the class. Loom rental fee $25 and materials fee $30,
both payable to the instructor.
