Summer Subbody Butoh Intensive:
“Stand, Walk”

Butoh founder Tatsumi Hijikata called a Butoh body as “a desperately standing dead body.” Standing and Walking are the most fundamental yet most difficult techniques of Butoh. Through walking techniques, a Butoh dancer can transform into a “Weakened Body” – an empty vessel with no ego, identity and humanity. From “Weakened Body,” Hijikata imagined an ultimate Butoh body to be the one that can transform into anything including animals, plants and inanimate materials.

This intensive workshop focuses on four basic and advanced walking techniques:

1. Ash Walk

2. Carrying Density

3. A Size Walk

4. Bugs Walk

This workshop is designed for persons with some knowledge of Butoh, but anyone who would like to explore his or her hidden creative potentials is welcome!
