About Jawaahir

Jawaahir, which means “jewels” in Arabic, presents our fourth show choreographed by company members as part of our mission to promote greater understanding of Middle Eastern culture through artistic educational and outreach activities, to bring the rich folkloric heritage of theMiddle East to the theater stage, and to make this dance form accessible to all ages. We have a history of presenting exciting theater and school performances and lecture/demonstrations throughout the Metro area. Artistic Director,CassandraShore has a national and international reputation for her artistry and authenticity. The Company is a dynamic ambassador for presenting the art and culture of the Arabic world to all age groups.

Jawaahir’s mission is more important than ever — the need for cross-cultural understanding is great, and the call for tolerance crucial. Jawaahir’s artistic programs present powerful alternatives to the negative images of Middle Eastern people so prevalent in American stereotypes and popular imagination. In addition, our programs offer opportunities for Arab-Americans to celebrate their rich and varied culture. Through the enchantment of music and dance, Jawaahir creates a space where cross-cultural appreciation can grow and tolerance can flourish.
