Introducing a chance to gather and discuss issues and ideas about art in person, without agenda, without contention, over a civilized nip o' the good stuff!
The Art Happy Hour! All artists, art lovers, and art observers are invited to the inaugural Art Happy Hour! in early February. And what's more, if you visit the site now, you can have a say as to when and where the first Art Happy Hour!will place. (Act fast, the polls will be closing soon). All interested members of the community are invited! Cheers! -M From the "About" page: The Art Happy Hour! is a monthly gathering of Minnesotans who appreciate the finer things in life, especially: A.) Art, and B.) Happy Hour. The Art Happy Hour!posits that the world would be a much better place, on the whole, if more people enjoyed the following things: A.) Art, and B.) Happy Hour. For those of you who still aren't getting what we're saying here, consider this: Art (according to the fine folk at Wikipedia) (for lack of a more convenient source of information) "refers to a diverse range of human activities and artifacts, and may be used to cover all or any of the arts, including music, literature and other forms." We take art to refer to the same, and anyone who is into any of these things is welcome to join in the Art Happy Hour! Meanwhile, also consider this: Happy hour (also according to Wikipedia) is "a period of time in the late afternoons, Monday through Thursday, and sometimes Friday (usually taking place between 4 pm and 7 pm…) during which some restaurants and bars give discounts for drinks, especially alcoholic drinks. The idea is that it acts as a promotion of the venue during the quieter times." Art Happy Hour! considers happy hour to be one of civilized society's better rituals, the best time of the week to unwind from work, to join in good conversation, and allow oneself have high spirits (in all senses of the phrase). Plus, happy hour makes the wheels of commerce go round! Here's our mission: The Art Happy Hour! will take place once a month somewhere across the great metropolis of Minneapolis-St. Paul. It will a good time for all. It will be sometimes epic, sometimes underwhelming (especially if there's a snow storm). It will be artistic and happy. Of course, we promote the idea of responsible and safe drinking and encourage participants to consider arranging transportation when engaging in a good happy hour. We want everyone to live long ornery lives full of art and happy hours, but we can take no responsibility for people's behavior, such as it may be. Happy Art Happy Hour! |

Hi all you Happy Art people! Here’s an AHH!pdate regarding the inaugural Art Happy Hour!
The Art Happy Hour! polls have been open for a few days, and the race is currently a tight one. As tallied thus far, The Independent’s Wednesday Happy Hour holds a slight lead, taking 40% of the vote. Liquor Lyle’s Wednesday Happy Hour and Grumpy’s Monday Happy Hour are still in the running, each taking 30% and 20% of the vote respectively. By now, you’ve probably realized that, thanks to cookie technology, you can’t pad the election box by voting over and over for your favorite watering hole (this ain’t no banana republic, folks; just one vote per customer). However, if you still want to influence the election, you can do it the good ol ‘Merican way: By lobbying. That is, steer all of your friends to the Art Happy Hour! website and ask them to vote today! That’s what Democracy’s all about: You and your friends dictating to everyone else what you want to do. Good luck! Note: Polls will be closing in just over a week’s time—on Friday, January 25, just after 9 pm. During the last week of January, I’ll announce the winning venue and time/place, and give instructions for attending the inaugural Art Happy Hour! Now this is much more exciting than what’s going on in bum-freak Nevada, isn’t it? |

In a heartbreakingly squeaky election, The Independent-Uptown has taken the race—by a scant one vote over late-contender Grumpy’s-Mpls—in the first ever Art Happy Hour! poll.
Congrats to the victor(s), and thanks to all of you who voted! Just so you know, the venue has been contacted. Art Happy Hour! has been given semi-official blessing by a semi-surly staffer, who said, quote, “We should have no problem handling thirty people or so for happy hour.” One note,* however: There may be a small controversy over the duration of the happy hour, as Mr. Semi-Surly contradicted the information on the Independent’s website, saying the Weds. happy hour only goes to 7 pm. Still, here are the pertinent details for your inaugural Art Happy Hour! What: The inaugural Art Happy Hour! Where: The Independent–Uptown, Calhoun Square Mall, 2nd floor, 3001 Hennepin Ave., Mpls When: Wednesday, February 13, 4 to 7 (or maybe 9) pm Any and all lovers of Art and Happy Hour in Minnesota are invited to come to the inaugural Art Happy Hour! Details about how to find fellow members of the Art Happy Hour! Tribe will follow (in a future post). |
