The Blake School Photography - Solarization

To produce this effect in a print, I used a negative with a lot of contrast as my subject. I then used a slightly lighter light level than before to come up with a normal test print. However the main difference between a Sabattier print and a normal print is the development technique and the second exposure with blank light. I didn’t proceed through the normal developing process; I kept the exposed light-sensitive paper in the developer for its usual time – one minute – and then put it in water for two minutes. After squeegeeing and drying off the print I then exposed the print with sections of blank light to produce the Sabattier effect. In this test print I exposed the blank light-sections perpendicular to the originally exposed sections. In this format, a grid-like test print was produced. From there the correct measurements/settings were chosen and used in the final print. The final print turned out great with lots of Mackie lines!
Solarization: No Contrast

Doing this assignment was very fun. Looking back at all of my previous assignments, I definitely think this was the best one. We really had the chance to express our ideas, and train of thought when we think of what art really is. To me, this is art. The point of my final print was to show that you don’t need any contrast to make something look artistic or beautiful. If I ever become an artist or photographer, I want this to be what people remember me by. I want people to see my prints, and use it as their source of art.
