Al Bahira Middle Eastern Theater is dedicated to the the performance, education, and creative presentation of the dance and music arts of the Middle East, Greece, Turkey, North Africa.
The Aalim School of Dance, the educational arm of Al Bahira, provides weekly classes belly dance, plus other dance and music workshops..
The name Al Bahira derives from the Arabic word for dazzling, sparkling. Al Bahira seeks to foster an appreciation of the beautiful, powerful dances and musical forms of the region by making them accessible to new audiences and traditional audiences alike. Al Bahira Dance Theater seeks to:
Present, preserve, and foster appreciation of the art forms through works rooted in the dance and music arts of the Middle East, North Africa, Greece, Turkey and surrounding regions.
To facilitate education in and about the art forms and cultures of these regions among American and international communities.
To present these dance and music forms as relevant, living, and ever-evolving art forms.
To foster cross-cultural understanding, cooperation, and community-building.
