Mission

Founded in 1986 as Hungry Mind Review, Ruminator magazine stands tall as an unabashed advocate of free speech, committed to providing a forum for idiosyncratic, feisty, fiercely independent viewpoints.

Now that we've turned 18, we're looking to stay true to that mission while expanding our horizons- we'll maintain the core commitment to books and good writing that's sustained us, but we'll also be doing more to reflect our love of all kinds of independent media. We'll look at music from every genre you can imagine (and a few you can't), indie films from the unexplored corners of Hollywood and beyond, and everything from trashy TV to buzz-worthy art exhibits. Each issue will also feature offbeat essays and columns from writers you know well (and some we're pleased to introduce), thoughtful cultural commentary, and exclusive interviews, along with an incisive and expanded reviews section.
