Collection Overview

Collector's Statement

The Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota commissioned nine artists in conjunction with the Grupo Soap del Corazon and Northfield-based ArtOrg to produce a suite of large steamroller prints for the 2009 Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead celebration.  A complete suite of these prints will remain in the permanent collection of the Plains Art Museum.

The exhibit at the Plains Art Museum runs from October 8 to January 3, 2010. A central part of this activity is the creation and display of nine large woodblock prints made with a steamroller. Artists Maria Cristina Tavera and Xavier Tavera will also create an Ofrenda for the exhibit. Kids will also get into the creative action, because ArtOrg did two small steamroller printing events at Fargo/Moorhead venues, and some of these prints will also be displayed in the museum exhibit. On Friday, November 7 from noon to 3pm there will be a special celebration reception at the museum in Fargo for the Day of the Dead.

The suite of nine prints will also have its Minneapolis premier on Saturday, November 14, 2009 as a part of a large exhibit of ArtOrg projects at the California Building in Northeast Minneapolis. The exhibit runs for the rest of November 2009; please check www.artorg.info for more information.
