Curator's Statement

"353 Days"
Valerie makes three to four visits to the Fair each year. As a teenager, she worked in a church diner on the grounds. She has felt the siren call of the vacant grounds during the off-season, and photographed the shadows falling on the lonely buildings during the long hibernation, when the backdrop, the stage for twelve hyperkinetic days of the Fair, becomes the main player. Unpopulated for most of the year, the grounds in Valerie's images are a ghost town, one full of recollection, echoes, and anticipation of sensory overload due to return in August.
