Deer in the Forest

I currently have several current bodies of work that focus on the environment where I live, on the shore of Lake Superior, at the edge of a forest. Here they are together in the show "Living Room" at Gallery 13 in Minneapolis.

This welded Corten steel deer can be sited outdoors--the steel's rust becomes a protective layer. It is lifesize--about 5' x 5' It is part of a larger ongoing group of work called "Pack and Herd"

Healing Hands: for Lake Superior College

Healing Hands is a commission for the Health Sciences building at Lake Superior College, home to professional training for therapists, nurses, and other health professionals. The hands signify the transmission of healing through caring touch, and also the transmission of knowledge from teacher to student. It is 9' tall, 4' wide, and about 2' deep, made of old-growth reclaimed douglas fir over a steel framework, with cast-bronze hands.

Steel Wolf, maquette

This paper maquette is a model for one in a planned series of works: deer (in Corten steel) and wolves (in blackened mild steel and stainless steel) in various poses. I'd like to create these symbiotic animals in packs.

Forest and Deer, Home and Garden Show

I showed several large works at Gallery 13's show at the 2012 Home and Garden Show at the Minneapolis Convention Center. It was fun to do-- good to get work out into the world.

Iron Deer in a Steel Forest

This work is a commission done for the Arrowhead Library System headquarters in Mountain Iron, Minnesota. The tree trunks are stainless steel expanded metal; the foliage is mild steel, plasma cut and painted with catalyzed paint. The deer is welded Corten steel, meant to acquire a protective rust patina.

Maquette, Healing Hands, for Lake Superior College

This is the maquette for the work [i]Healing Hands,[/i] which will be installed in May at Lake Superior College's Health Sciences Building. The eventual work will be 9' x 4.5' x 1.5', in Doug fir and bronze.
