She was a brindle pit bull terrier and we always joked that she will 'lick you to death'. She was the most loving, sweetest dog you could imagine. In this painting, she is waiting for my husband to throw a stick in the water so she could fetch it. This was a never ending game when we were anywhere near water. Just before she passed, she went on a road trip to Oregon with us and got to chase waves in the ocean. She was rejuvenated and acted like a puppy. We are so glad we decided to take her along. Mendota is a small village of less than 200 residents at the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers. There are many ceremonies and events that take place at the office or up the street at the St. Peters Catholic Church grounds. MMDC has an annual 'Welcome Home' powwow in August, as well as inipi (sweat lodge) ceremonies, crafting classes, Dakota language classes and many more events.
