This book, among innumerable other fascinating titles such as The Search for Order; Genetics Heredity, Environment and Personality, and one of my favorite (given the poignant circumstances of the making of the photographs), You Can’t Go Home Again, a novel by Thomas Wolfe are selections from our mothers pre-marriage/children life.

Who were my parents? Specifically, who was my mother, this woman who raised me? And more importantly, how did those beliefs, ideas, interests and dreams contribute to the shaping of us children. For me, this search has given great insight into the Big Question: What the hell was going on?

Part of a series documenting my mothers cancer therapy. Our mother, an American, had traveled to Mexico to stay with our fathers family for her Breast Cancer treatment. While undergoing radiation therapy, this image was created in a family garden where she was sitting while having her remaining hair cut off.
