This may be a ferrious fish or be the root of a good Northern Pike story. Transparent and opaque watercolors make up bulk of the painting along with pen and ink. Background effects were fun to do too.

I enjoyed the background construction! The ink keeps the fish subjects from moving about. Interesting textures happened with this painting. Also picked some unique colors - going into shades of purples.

This is a sample of my latest fun experimenting done with pen and ink and watercolor. Once the ink is dry, all kinds of splashing and straying and layering and splattering can happen and not disturb the subject matter.

Very moody. I love the ability to use and abuse watermedia! Until it dries, you never know exactly what you have laid down for color or texture. This floral started with pen and ink that wouldn't stay put on a gessoed paper. With a light touch, colors were introduced, removed and presto!! Don't you find the crystal vase to be very delicate?

Painted on gessoed paper where the paint can be lifted off ...I describe this painting as a fun challenge! It started as my demonstration at Art on a Line 2008 planning to paint a floral. Afterwards, I thought the color choices and movement suggested underwater scenery. Once I had a good direction to proceed, what was left to do? .... but to choose a silly name.
