Part of a series of six cross-stitched chair seat covers made by the client's mother, who decided to preserve the pieces and give to grandchildren as heirlooms. Each piece has different background colors and floral designs, requiring different color choices for the mats, but the same simple frame style was used for all. The pieces were carefully stretched and mounted to foam core and ample mat space was provided to bring a focus to the image. Overall size: 20x20. Conservation glass and materials only.

Cardinal print

One of several wildlife prints that a client wanted re-framed to match a new room decor. The wide suede mat provides a complimentary texture and a contrasting color tone, and serves to draw the eye to the art. The gray inner mat and the wood colored frame also tie in well with the subject matter and colors. Overall size: 19x27. Conservation glass and materials only.

This ethereal photo of reflections in a lake needed a dramatic mounting to contrast with the floating, freeform subject matter. The burgundy suede top mat provides a complimentary texture and draws out the reddish tones in the print. The black inner mat provides a line of separation between the print and the top mat. The gold frame is almost over the top, but it serves to emphasize the surreal nature of the photo. Overall size: 32x25. Conservation glass and materials only.

The soft, diffuse subject matter, paired with the contrasting horizontal sweep in this image suggested a combination of a suede top mat tied by color and texture and a contrasting black inner mat. The frame has a softer, lighter inner surface surrounded by two darker bands, all fitting nicely with in the color palette of the image. Overall size: 22x18. Conservation glass and materials only.

The high contrast of this image meant that a darker mat and frame would serve to set the image off from the surrounding wall. Barely visible in this photo, the top mat has a printed texture that was enhanced by hand colored additions with a tone slightly lighter than the black inner mat. The reverse profile frame serves to thrust the image out from the wall and the gold highlights tie in with tones from the image. Overall size: 20x30. Conservation glass and materials only.

Painted to the edge of the paper and with separate, attached leaves placed over the main image, this piece required a combination of floating and spacing to allow for proper display. The base mat picks up the main tones and colors of the painting, while the narrow, black top mat hides the spacers that hold the glass away from the image. The mottled colors of the frame, with undertones of greens and gold highlights, contrasts well with the stark linen liner. Overall size: 38x31. Conservation glass and materials only.

The selection of the deep and highly ornamented frame led to the choice of a large spacer between the patterned top mat and the ivory inner mat, giving an appearance of looking through a window at the artwork. Overall size: 28x29. Conservation glass and materials only.

The high contrast of the frost lines against the trees in the background is carried through in the choice of two off-white mats separated by a black 2nd mat. The dark frame has ornamentation similar to the patterns created in the image. Overall size: 21x24. Conservation glass and materials only.
