The Shoebox Gallery is pleased to announce a one man show by painter Wyatt McDill from April 28th –June 28th, 2006. The show is viewable everyday of the week and at all hours. It is located in a window of Roberts Shoes, to the right of 2948 Chicago Av S, Mpls. 55407.


Bio:

Wyatt McDill is a filmmaker and painter who lives in Minneapolis. His
first film Shortwave screened at the 1999 Slamdance Film Festival and
was nominated for a D. L. Mabery Award - Minnesota's "Best Picture"
award. Subsequent film projects have been awarded grants by the Jerome
Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board and screened at film
festivals around the country. He is currently in pre-production on his
first feature-length film, Snowbird. Paintings inspired by this story
were on display last year at the Creative Electric Studios in Northeast
Minneapolis.

Artist's Statement:

My neighborhood - Chicago and Lake - is undergoing a transformation
inspired by the renovation of the old Sears building; it feels like a
curtain is about to be raised on a new neighborhood, one with new
corporate neighbors, new sidewalks, new faces. The paintings in this
window pay homage to the old neighborhood: it wasn't very friendly,
because it was poor, but I lived there, so I'll miss it. And I wonder
where the people from the old Chicago-Lake will live now, who always
have to live somewhere no one wants to think about.
