Statement

This is a hand thrown hand carved porcelin piece that was awarded 2nd place in the Minnesota State Fair in 2001. The finish is sgraffito where glaze is added and then scraped through.

The inspiration was the demographic changes in our state populations. .. to celebrate and build on our diversity. The carvings reflect my interpretation of an Asian child, an African American child, an Native American elder, a Hispanic woman and an European-American young man.
