Cherry and maple
The shelves are the focus of this shelving unit rather than the large case. I made the case from 3/4" ply and the shelves from 1". I also extended the shelves well beyond the edge of the case, which looks more interesting to me.

I didn't take this idea as far as I wanted to, mainly out of practicality. I needed the most space for books as possible, and the best way to accomplish that is with long flat shelves. Maybe on my next one.
