ink/watercolor 2002
i lived in spain for about 11 months when i was 20, and have really been in love with the country since i first visited at age 16. probably one of the first things that come to mind when a foreigner thinks of spain is flamenco. i was really fortunate to see several truly authentic performances while in spain (not easy with all the tourist traps that claim to offer authenticity). i don't know how accurately i've depicted any real dance pose here, but i think the piece does project the excitement, the color, the quickness of movement, and the gypsy flair that i witnessed firsthand in a tavern carved into the side of a mountain near granada.
