Statement

A ransom note makes a demand and a promise. A message in a bottle is a cry for help. This series reflects upon these themes, intending to evoke a collage of feelings in the viewer, concerning issues of identity, innocence, futility, communication, confusion, memory and most of all, the absurd.

Reviews

The following is excerpted from vita.mn's preview of my (December, 2006) show with Ruben Nusz, where this series debuted...

"For their new show, Jonathan Nelson and Ruben Nusz are throwing everything but the kitchen sink - drawings, paintings, photos, sculpture, video and collaged sound - at such huge themes as creation and destruction, life and death. Their track records are so ambitious that it just might work. A sound and visual-collage artist, Nelson can be heard locally on his weekly radio program “Some Assembly Required” on Radio K. He has promised to deliver sculpture, sound collage and 'ransom notes to the collective unconscious.' Cool."
