Strange Attractors XII
Festival of Experimental Music and Intermedia Art
March 19 – April 30, 2004
Metropolitan State University
A new generation of artists is combining and redefining traditional art forms, creating new materials, performance practices and methods of artistic expression. The Strange Attractors XII Festival of Experimental Music and Intermedia Art will bring to Metropolitan State University a collection of renowned artists in a celebration of new work and creativity. The festival will offer a flexible and interactive environment for artists to present and discuss their work to audiences who will have a unique opportunity to experience these works in diverse and creative ways.
Laurie Witzkowski – The theater artist and vocalist presents an evening of ‘Deep Listening’, building on the musical concepts of Pauline Oliveros with collaborative improvisations and compositions featuring local artists and deep-listening practitioners.
Friday, March 19th (7 p.m.)
Creative Capstones – Senior projects in experimental music and intermedia arts.
Friday, March 26th (7 p.m.)
Mary & Marlene - Two veterans of the Nobles intermedia group, Mary Garvie and Marlene Tupy present an intermedia evening with recent objects, images and sounds of Paris (and more).
Friday, April 2nd (7 p.m.)
Miriam Gerberg and John Munger - The composer and musician joins the dancer/choreographer in an evening of music and movement in cutting edge cultural settings.
Friday, April 9th (7 p.m.)
Jon Spayde – The exquisite corpse himself returns to Strange Attractors with new characters, including the creatively incarcerated Ankle-bracelet Larry, Philander T. Overman and Vic’s Creative Visualization Theater.
Friday, April 16th (7 p.m.)
Philip Blackburn and Preston Wright - Environmental sound-and-video artists Blackburn and Wright bring the former morgue to life. Video in 3D, sounds in your ears and feet, the building becomes a resonant instrument for one night only, a portal for your senses. A jungle, a desert, a garden: a bridge between life and death, movement, vibration and stillness.
Friday, April 23rd (7 p.m.)
Steve Goldstein and the Nobles eXperimental interMedia Group – The guest artist and laptop performer joins the Group in presenting new-spirited improvisations, compositions and capstone projects.
