Arecibo, Mixed Media Assemblage dim 22" h x 9"w x 4" d
Arecibo, is a mixed media and wood box that explores Memory, it tells a story from a real to an imaginary place... it explores ideas about time, existence, geography, and environment... through poetry, photography, and collage, on a three-dimensional assemblage… Arecibo in Puerto Rico is a surreal place to dream, to remember...to escape
Arecibo
In the middle of the rainforest
It smells like wet ground
and fresh herbs
when it rains
Sky is clean.
I walk up the hill
The stone walls
seam like ancient ruins…
when suddenly it appears
grandiose
as if arrived from out of space
a magical apparatus
that observes stars and planets
perhaps living creatures, civilizations…
that no longer exist…
it observes the past,
what occurs today, will be observed
in thousands of years… it seams
that the time passing suddenly stops
to observe the time
the sound of the stars,
celestial bodies,
magnetic waves, radio frequencies…
intelligible codes for some
inexplicable hieroglyphs to others.
I take a deep breath
Walk down the hill
I still smell wet ground
after the rain…
walking into the forest
I disappear…
from place
and time.
