Statement

A news item about a big zoo cat that escaped into the crowds helped me bring the idea for this necklace out of my head and into reality. The smooth, round, "calm" beads inside the triangular "cage", juxtaposed with the irregular chips on the ends of spiky bead "stems" represents my thoughts that no animal, including human, should be assumed to be resigned to the constraints of daily existence, and therefore, "well-behaved", "approachable" or "serene."

This piece was featured in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts' "Foot in the Door" exhibit.
