Intermedia Arts proudly presents the 12th annual installment of MINNEAPOLIS 55408, the multimedia, multi-artist exhibition that displays new works from Minneapolis’ most creative zip code. Called the “artiest city west of the Mississippi” by USA Today, Minneapolis is a Mecca for artists and art lovers. Minneapolis 55408 will surprise and delight audiences, as they discover the unique artistic voices this neighborhood has to share!

For the past 12 years, Intermedia Arts has proudly opened its galleries to 55408 artists of all levels of experience. Minneapolis 55408 creates a sense of community for many artists who may not have an opportunity to show work in more traditional gallery settings. This annual exhibition of work by artists who live or work in the 55408 zip code serves an avenue for neighborhood artists to connect to each other, share experiences and sell their work.

More than 40 artists have come together for this year’s eclectic exhibition: painting, sculpture, photography, illustration and more will be collected in Intermedia Arts’ gallery for our community to explore and celebrate.

Join us at our Opening Night Reception on Friday, March 14th for an evening of community dialogue, excellent art, wine, beer, appetizers and dancing. Special guest and 55408 curator-alum Mike Hoyt brings the noise as DJ and the host of the Second Annual Karaoke Blowout. Visit www.intermediaarts.org for more information.

ABOUT THE CURATORS
For co-curator Sergio Vucci, Minneapolis 55408’s geographic focus serves to highlight some of the invisible threads that bind this community, both public and private. Works from professional, amateur and first-time artists are placed side-by-side, activating each other and interacting in exciting ways.
As co-curator Bridgette Rongitsch explains, Minneapolis 55408 is more than an art show: After ten years as a neighborhood exhibition, Minneapolis 55408 continues to be a vital forum for the exchange of ideas through visual art. The exhibition has evolved into a point of connection between artists and their diverse community.

ABOUT INTERMEDIA ARTS
Intermedia Arts is Minnesota's premier multicultural, multidisciplinary arts center. We are a gathering place to share stories through visual arts, theater, dance, music, media, and literature—from folk arts to hip-hop culture. Intermedia Arts began in 1973 as a group of student media activists, University Community Video. Over the last three decades we’ve grown, become multidisciplinary, changed our name and become internationally recognized for our innovative cultural programs. One thing remains: our unwavering mission to use art as a tool to build understanding among people. Intermedia Arts belongs to the community it serves. We believe whole-heartedly in creative leadership development. Artists are leaders. Leaders inspire. Our programs grow organically from the issues facing our neighbors, friends and community members. Together, we develop creative tools for addressing challenges, sharing resources, celebrating positive change and building healthy communities.

Reviews

"… To have this unique and nurturing venue for showing work means so much to non-professional artists like myself, for whom art – even if not our living—is so vital." —Florence Brammer, former Minneapolis 55408 artist
