This is the story of a teen-aged girl growing up in Northern Minnesota.
This is a young adult title about a girl growing up at a pine marten research station in Northeastern Minnesota. At the beginning of the book Kristin is 10 years old and at the end she is 18 and ready to start life on her own. A variety of women influence her life including her mother, the finnish women that share the sauna and others that move in and out of her life. Some of the themes that are touched on are: tattooes, menarche and cancer. They are all dealt with in a very realistic and touching way.
This is a great read for teenaged girls and all ages of women.
Watercolors by Rod McIver and Tanya Thompson enhance the story.
