Statement

This project mediates between the naked human eye and the vast celestial landscape. Sited within a park in the midst of rolling prairies, the project consists of a sidereal viewing terrace surrounding three nested metal shells; the largest housing a Newtonian telescope, the middle shell holding digitized sensing controls and a small warming room to the northeast. A variety of orientation devices are built into the terrace and building, with emphasis on perspective, horizon and declination. All night long the observatory glows with red light under a vault of stellar light.
