The Feats of Strength and Physical Agility and YouTube Invitational was shared as part of Common Room, a project room at The Soap Factory. It consisted of a YouTube playlist I created based on the experience of community created around sharing particularly engaging videos with friends. I collected these specific videos for the sense of amazement and awe they imparted from human-driven adventures—people soaring like flying squirrels down cliff faces, endangered skateboarders amid unpredictable explosions, an impossible tennis shot followed by one even more improbable. There were moments during the presentation, in the darkened room, when the audience lost themselves and “oohed” when the surfer you thought had succumbed to the massive wave shot out of the rumbling froth. When the crowd clapped in wonder as the mountain biking unicyclist navigated 90 degree switchbacks on pencil-thin surfaces high in the trees. It was those moments when an undeniable sense of wonder took over, infused the room, bound us all unselfconsciously, when the work was truly alive, truly in play. The videos were a vehicle to reach that shared space. That shared space was the actual work. The link to the playlist is provided below.
