Statement

I have tried to incorporate a Taoist method in figure drawing. While traditional Western art, from the 5th Century BC Greek culture, stresses the center of gravity of the model (I assume so their sculptures didn't fall over) and an almost scientific proportion, the Taoists were landscape artists who began a composition at the top of the mountain. From the 'Mustard Seed Garden' they recommend beginning drawing a portrait where the five hills and four valleys meet.
