60"h x 30"w x 30"d
The unusual title of this piece refers to the reactions I was trying to elicit from the viewer during their experience with it. I also wanted to create a piece that was unlike much design today, with characteristics that speak less to the means of manufacture and more to an elegant presence. It is built of maple, ebony, industrial rubber, aluminum, and tiger maple veneer with brass hardware and turnings. The finish uses water-based analine dyes with a clear lacquer topcoat and black lacquer. It won both the Blue Ribbon for Large Furniture Piece and the Sweepstakes Prize (which encompasses all woodworking projects) at the 2003 Minnesota State Fair.
Winner, "Most Daring", 2003 Northern Woods Exhibition.
