Statement

Now a special concert performance series over
July 4th Weekend, 2004, when the
Grand Excursion Flotilla will be
docked in downtown St. Paul!

In 1854, a grand party of statesmen, reporters and celebrities travels up the Mississippi River by steamboat to celebrate the progress of the railroads and to experience the Wild West first-hand. Led by former President Millard Fillmore, the steamboat party arrives a day early and finds that Saint Paul isn't ready for the big celebration!

Abigail Fillmore, the President's adventurous daughter, is the belle of the ball and it is through her eyes that we see the great potential for national expansion and the ever-brewing dangers of civil war. Beautiful music, hoop skirts, romance and adventure: it's the Grand Excursion! Written by Hiram Titus with book and lyrics by Barbara Field.
