Raindial was a season-specific installation of large glass bottles designed to interact with both the Spring weather and the public. The bottles were placed in a circular array and topped with funnels of varying size (to catch different amounts of rain). On weekends, participants were given books of matches and asked to crouch next to a bottle. Alcohol was poured into each bottle and the funnels removed. The alcohol floated on the collected rainwater, rapidly evaporating and mixing with oxygen. Matches were then dropped into the bottles, producing a variety of sound and visual effects.
