I designed this piece with the idea of reconciling my interests in fire and video. A video monitor was employed to create the illusion of a firelight lantern. The piece was comprised of a pyramidal jungle-gym, wrapped in paper. The paper caught the flickering light of the monitor as a true lantern would.
The monitor inside showed a burn-off flame from an oil refinery. The flame was visible through a small hole in the paper, and appeared to float in the center of the structure due to a tilted pane of clear glass that reflected the image from the monitor.
