MINNEAPOLIS, MN – MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Portland invades! Artists Bwana Spoons and Martin Ontiveros tag team this month at OX-OP Arts with a one-two punch of new paintings complete with robots, monsters and small, fuzzy animals. Join us Saturday, May 1st to meet and greet the artists, and partake of their stylistically different but equally bent perceptions of reality.

Martin Ontiveros is originally from sunny San Diego, California, but after getting his bachelor degree from CalArts (Experimental Animation 96') he left the sunshine for the dreary, grey, cold and rainy northwest city of Portland, Oregon. After a year of really stupid meaningless jobs, he decided to take a crack at this art thing, painted a show of monsters, robots and other oddities, and has managed (with highs and lows) to make a living off of it ever since. Martin was picked up for representation by Sixspace about a year ago, and you can check out some stuff of his there at www.sixspace.com. He has a cool partner named Micki, a son named Felix, and two cats, Bunny and Spanky." See more at www.sixspace.com

Bwana Spoons is a a 33yr old SF transplant, permanently residing in Portland OR for the last 8 years. "I’m a bit more than ordinarily obsessed with my Lego and Microman toys. I love mossy rocks, and my wife Marny and family of too many animals. My works are usually acrylic on found bits from the street, the beach, or anything else I can get my paws on. I’m a prolific and professional noodler, doodler, zine-maker, painter, pain in the ass, packrat, woodworking, and sculpting nut.” Over the years Bwana Spoons has worked on and/or created several zines and comics. “Ain’t Nothin’ Like Fuckin’ Moonshine” was the first and longest running. The most recent projects include Pencil Fight, and Soft Smooth Brain.See more at www.grasshutcorp.com
